Going through life and regularly experiencing anxiety is not an easy thing to deal with. Many of us struggle with it at some stage, and it is important to have knowledge of self-help techniques that can make living with anxiety easier.

For some of us, anxious feelings may pass quite quickly, while for others they may become a chronic condition. Either way, these tips can improve your symptoms when you experience feelings of anxiety.

  • Tackle the issue – It may be impossible to completely eradicate anxiety (after all we need it to warn us of danger), but realising that you need to deal with your feelings means that you start asserting control over the condition.

  • Breathe deeply – When we get anxious, our breathing speeds up or becomes irregular. Restore a sense of calm by taking deep breaths that last for a few seconds each. This will return your breathing and heart rate back to normal and make you feel more relaxed.

  • Occupy your time – If you spend a lot of time thinking about things then it is more likely you will start to fret. Instead try and keep yourself busy throughout the day. By staying focused and occupied, anxious thoughts will have less opportunity to creep into your mind.

  • Exercise often – taking regular exercise makes our immune systems more resilient and increases our levels of serotonin. This makes us feel happier and more relaxed – exactly what you need when suffering from an episode of anxiety.

  • Be positive – Try and reframe your thoughts so you see the positive side of life. Spend a few minutes each day thinking about the good instead of the bad. This will assist in developing a positive mindset.

Chronic anxiety may be a result of traumatic life experience or stress that you have failed to deal with properly. While traditional medicine prescribes drugs to lower anxiety, it does not deal with the root cause of the issue.

In such cases, Health Kinesiology may be helpful. By using muscle testing, we aim to identify and resolve energy blockages that could be maintaining an anxious response from the body.
